Are you cross-selling insurance products to your list of active clients? Are you doing it through email? If not, you should be.

Cross-selling insurance through email is incredibly effective when delivered the right way, at the right time, and with the right messaging. Not sure how to meet that criteria? That’s what we will cover in this article.

Here are 3 successful email templates for insurance agents that you can start using today to cross sell your insurance products.

Home but No Auto & Auto No Home

The first two templates we will cover are two of the most common email templates for insurance agents that are used for cross-selling insurance. That’s because homeowners insurance and car insurance are the two most commonly purchased insurance policies. If your client has one with you but not the other, there’s a good chance they are getting the other insurance from another insurance provider. So swoop in and let them know just how much they can save by bundling both types of insurance with your agency.

Here’s what these templates may look like:

Home-No-Auto

Subject Line: Want to save [Insert Money Amount]

Hey [Insert Client’s Name],

Want to save [Insert Money Amount] each month on your insurance premiums? Well, you can when you bundle your current homeowners policy with your auto insurance. Give me a call or shoot me a reply to this email to find out more about your bundling opportunities.

Auto-No-Home

Subject Line: How Does a [Max Potential Savings Rate] Sound?

Hey [Insert Client’s Name],

We noticed your auto policy was all alone without a homeowners policy. Did you know that if you bundle these together you could save up to [Max Potential Savings Rate] on your monthly premiums? It’s true and simple. Give me a call or shoot me an email for your bundled quote and all those savings.

Keep it Short and to the Point

Your clients are busy people with their attention being grabbed in a million directions at once (like yourself). So it’s best to keep your emails short and to the point. As a business owner, you likely receive your own share of sales emails, some you may reply to and others you ignore. Think about what it is that makes you respond to a sales email, and then emulate that in your own cross-selling emails to your clients.

Cross-Selling Umbrella Insurance

An umbrella policy is a great cross-selling opportunity and a great way to add extra value to your client. And if they’re already happy with your insurance policy for their home and car, you’ve got a good shot at cross-selling them on a policy that can cover any damages that their existing policy does not cover.

Here’s what this kind of email looks like in action:

Umbrella Cross-Sell

Subject Line: Get Complete Coverage With an Umbrella Policy

Hey [Insert Client’s Name],

Did you know that your auto and homeowners policy only covers you so far? To be completely covered you need an umbrella policy that covers what your stand alone policies don’t. Without an umbrella policy you can be liable for property damage and personal injuries in the event of an accident.

These are situations that nobody ever wants to encounter but it’s better to be prepared for the unforeseen like [Insert Detail about Client’s Life] than to be unprotected when you need protection the most.

Get in touch with me today to see how much you can save from increased protection under an umbrella policy.

All the best,

[Insert Your Signature]

This is a great email template for insurance agents since it states what an umbrella policy is in relation to a stand alone standard auto or homeowners policy. It explains the added benefit of an umbrella policy in addition to a current auto or homeowners policy without diminishing the value of your client’s current insurance policies.

Timing is Everything

It’s important to remember that the key to successfully cross-selling insurance is to nail your timing. For example, if your client just signed on with your agency for a homeowners policy – wait a couple months and then send them an email regarding their auto insurance.

As you begin building out your email templates, you want to make sure to use a subject line that will grab your client’s attention. It should sum up what your email will be about in just 10 words or less and it should be benefit-driven. Questions are a great way to do this (see examples above).
